Teenage Model

Being a teen is hard. Parenting one can be even harder.

Adolescence is full of big emotions, shifting identities, and constant pressure—socially, academically, and internally. It’s no surprise that many teens feel anxious, down, disconnected, or overwhelmed. And while “I’m fine” might be their go-to response, often that’s far from the truth.

Middle and high school years can take a serious toll on a teen’s confidence and self-esteem. Communication with parents can start to break down. And for many teens, opening up at home just doesn’t feel like an option.

You might notice your teen becoming more withdrawn, irritable, or emotionally reactive. Maybe they seem glued to their phone, no longer care about things they used to love, or have started struggling in school. It’s hard to know how much to push, when to step in, or what’s really going on beneath the surface.

That’s where therapy can help.

In my work with teens, I create a space where they don’t have to pretend or perform—where they can speak freely, explore what they’re feeling, and learn real tools to cope with life’s challenges.

Whether your teen is dealing with anxiety, low motivation, school pressure, identity exploration, social struggles, or just feeling overwhelmed by it all, therapy can give them the support and clarity they need to start feeling better.

In teen therapy in Poulsbo (or online), we focus on skills like:

  • Managing anxiety and building emotional regulation tools

  • Recognizing signs of depression and taking steps forward

  • Communicating clearly and expressing emotions in healthy ways

  • Boosting confidence and improving self-worth

  • Navigating peer dynamics and social pressure

  • Setting boundaries and making empowered choices

  • Handling academic stress and life transitions

  • Understanding emotions instead of bottling them up

More Than Just Talk

Therapy isn’t just about venting. It’s about learning how to understand what you’re feeling—and what to do with those feelings. Some days that means helping a teen understand how anxiety works in their body (and why it makes them feel like throwing up). Other days it’s practicing how to speak up in class, manage panic, or make decisions when everything feels overwhelming.

Instead of being stuck in a swirl of confusion or emotional shutdown, teens walk away with tools they can actually use—at home, at school, and in their relationships.

Support for High-Achieving Teens

Not all struggling teens look like they’re falling apart. In fact, some are holding it all together too well. If your teen is driven, perfectionistic, or constantly managing high expectations, they may be quietly overwhelmed. I offer targeted support for high-achieving teens who are burned out, anxious, or battling a harsh inner critic. Learn More

About Robyn

I’ve been a therapist for over 20 years—and working with teens has always been at the heart of what I do. Why? Because I genuinely enjoy it.

Teens are sharp, funny, thoughtful, and often carrying more than they let on. I love the realness of the conversations we get to have—whether it’s about school stress, mental health, friendships, identity, family dynamics, or figuring out what comes next. They keep me in the loop on trends and slang (don’t worry, I try not to embarrass myself too much), and I get to be both a steady supporter and the kind of adult who can gently say, “Okay… that probably wasn’t your best move.”

I think teens respond well to me because I’m approachable and real. I’m warm, open, and not afraid to give direct, honest feedback when it’s needed. I’ve been told—more times than I can count—that I’m one of the few adults they feel like they can actually talk to without being judged. That kind of trust isn’t something I take lightly.

I show up as myself—genuine, grounded, and willing to answer their questions with honesty (and a healthy dose of boundaries). I’m insightful and articulate, but I never expect teens to prove anything to me. My role isn’t to critique or correct—it’s to offer a safe space where they feel heard, understood, and supported as they sort through who they are and who they’re becoming.

It’s a privilege to be that kind of presence in a teen’s life. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside many of them from high school through college and beyond—and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
