In Person Child Therapy in Kitsap County

Therapy for Children (Ages 8+)

Even the most caring, well-intentioned parents can feel lost when their child is struggling.

My approach centers on this truth: There are no “bad kids” or “bad parents.” Instead, there are behaviors that make sense once we understand the whole picture — the nervous system, the family environment, the child’s temperament, and the challenges they’re facing.

I help children build emotional skills, confidence, and self-awareness — while supporting parents in seeing their own strengths. Together, we shift from what’s not working to what is possible.

In child therapy, I use play-based strategies, expressive arts and crafts, and structured activities to help children:

  • Learn to express big feelings in safe, healthy ways

  • Regulate emotions and manage overwhelm

  • Improve behavior through self-awareness and skill-building

  • Increase confidence, resilience, and self-trust

  • Have a trusted adult there to listen

I also help families understand what fuels a child’s behavior, so we can change the patterns — not just the symptoms.

Therapy for Kids Who Worry

Some kids are just wired to feel things more deeply.
They’re sensitive, thoughtful, tuned in — and often, anxious.

They might worry about school, friends, or making mistakes. They might melt down over transitions or bedtime or seem overwhelmed by things other kids brush off. Sometimes they hold it together all day, then fall apart the moment they get home.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

I specialize in working with children who are anxious, sensitive, or easily overwhelmed — and I support the parents who are doing their best to help them.

A Whole-Family Approach to Anxiety

Kids don’t experience anxiety in a vacuum. I work to understand the full picture: your child’s temperament, their environment, your parenting style, and the patterns playing out at home.

My work supports both child and parent — because you’re a team. And when one of you is struggling, everyone is affected.

Through individual child therapy and parent support session:

  • Children understand their feelings and develop tools to manage them

  • Parents respond with greater calm, clarity, and confidence

  • Families reduce power struggles, reactivity, and stress

  • Everyone feel more connected, seen, and supported

Common Reasons Families Reach Out

  • Anxiety, worry, frequent fears

  • Meltdowns, outbursts, or emotional reactivity

  • Trouble adjusting to change (divorce, move, new school, etc.)

  • Perfectionism, low confidence, or self-criticism

  • Sadness, frustration, loneliness

  • Difficulty making or keeping friends

  • Highly sensitive or intuitive children

When children feel seen, safe, and understood — healing and growth can begin.

About Robyn

I’ve been a therapist for over 20 years—and for much of that time, working with children has been at the heart of my practice.

For 15 years in Seattle, I worked with kids and their families, helping sensitive, thoughtful, and often anxious children build emotional skills and confidence. When COVID hit and I moved my practice online, I stepped away from working with kids—unsure if I’d return to it.

But over time, I realized how much I missed it. I missed the creativity, the connection, the way therapy with kids happens through play, presence, and trust. And I saw how few in-person options exist for families in Kitsap County. So I made the decision to return to this work - and found a therapy space right in downtown Poulsbo!

I bring a calm, grounded presence into the therapy room. I notice the small things kids do well—often the things that go unnoticed. I help children feel safe, seen, and capable, and I support parents in feeling more confident, connected, and less overwhelmed. My goal is always to foster relationships where both parent and child feel appreciated, acknowledged, and understood.

I’m a Certified Nurtured Heart Advanced Trainer, and I use this approach to help shift family dynamics toward what's going right. It’s especially powerful for kids who are intense, strong-willed, or may have ADHD (or feel like they do). I help families move beyond surface behaviors and uncover the deeper feelings, needs, and patterns underneath—so that real, lasting change can happen.

I have an energetic, intuitive connection with kids and families. Children and teens often tell me I “get” them. Parents tell me things start improving across the board—even in areas we didn’t directly address. My warm, easygoing personality helps young people and adults feel supported and accepted, while also gently challenged to grow.

I’m not here to judge or correct. I’m here to create a relationship that brings clarity, confidence, and forward momentum—for both kids and the people who love them.
