The Investment of Therapy

Therapy That’s Actually Helpful

Therapy with me is honest, warm, and practical. You’ll find I’m pretty warm and fuzzy—I get on the floor with the kiddos, swear and laugh with my teens, and share coffee and real talk with my adults. We might laugh, cry, or both in the same session.

I bring empathy, intuition, and deep clinical experience—but also humor, honesty, and the ability to say the thing no one else will (with kindness). Sessions are a mix of depth, directness, and genuine connection. You’ll always know I’m in it with you, paying attention, and invested in helping you feel better.

I get it. Therapy is a big investment—time, energy, and money. With over 20 years of experience, I bring the depth of skill and perspective to make that investment worth it.

Insurance
I’m considered out-of-network with all insurance providers. However, I can provide a superbill for you to submit for potential reimbursement. Many insurance plans cover a significant portion of therapy under out-of-network benefits.

If you’re a young adult managing your own finances or a returning client navigating a change in resources, reach out—I’m open to talking through options when possible.

Who I Work With
  • Kids & Teens — Build calm, confidence, and the ability to manage big feelings.

  • Parents — Feel more equipped to support your anxious or sensitive child—without burning out.

  • Young Adults — Navigate transitions, relationships, and anxiety with more self-trust.

  • Adults — Quiet the inner critic, ease anxiety, and feel more grounded.

Specialties: Anxiety, depression, perfectionism, identity development, EMDR.

My Approach

Therapy with me is focused, compassionate, and practical. We’ll dig into what’s keeping you (or your child) stuck, challenge the inner critic, and build tools that actually help.

I work with fewer clients so I can show up fully present—you’re not just another slot on a calendar. You get therapy that’s customized to your pace, personality, and goals.

EMDR for the sticky stuff

I’m a certified EMDR therapist. While it’s often used for trauma, it’s also incredibly effective for:

  • Anxiety that hijacks your brain

  • Relentless overthinking and worst-case-scenario loops

  • Guilt or shame that won’t let go

  • Feeling stuck in old memories or patterns

EMDR helps your brain and body process what they’ve been holding onto, so you can move forward with less tension and more ease. We'll talk about if/when we want to do EMDR sessions (EMDR takes the whole session, so we plan for it)

A Note to Parents

If you’re here looking for help for your teen or young adult, I take your trust seriously. I work closely with parents (when appropriate) to ensure everyone feels heard, respected, and supported. My goal isn’t just to help your child cope—it’s to help them build lasting tools and confidence they’ll carry into adulthood.

Curious If We’re a Good Fit?

Whether we meet in person in my Poulsbo office or online anywhere in Washington, this is a space to sort things out, feel supported, and start making sense of what’s been feeling hard.

"Robyn has helped get me through some of the darkest points in my life. She not only helped me foster love within myself, but helped show me that I am capable of being loved for me, not what I can provide. From loving the body I’m in to the mind I have, Robyn is the person I credit a lot of my progress to her. Without her, I would not be the person I am today."

- Z

"Working with Robyn has been incredible. Robyn has seen me at my best and my worst, helped me navigate difficult situations/decisions, and has told me what I need to hear even if it isn’t what I want to hear."

- LR

"I’ve been seeing Robyn for the past 13 years on and off, and I have stuck with her for a reason. I can talk about anything and everything with no judgement. She is someone that will listen, empathize, support, and give insightful advice depending on your needs. She has been so helpful in navigating my everyday life , work and school troubles, and other traumas and tribulations in my life. She always makes me feel safe and heard, and would highly recommend her."

  • Do you take insurance?
Short answer: no I don't. I am considered an out of network provider with all insurance companies. You will receive a superbill (essentially an insurance ready receipt of services) at the end of each month which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
  • Do you work with couples?
I don’t work with couples. I know—that might sound a little strange since I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). But becoming an LMFT was the path that allowed me to work with children, teens, and families, given how much family dynamics influence individual mental health. So here I am—a “marriage and family therapist” who doesn’t actually do couples therapy. Sorry for any confusion!
  • What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. I hold your session time exclusively for you. If you cancel/reschedule with less than 48 hours’ notice, or don’t show up for your appointment, the full session fee will be charged to the card on file. That said, I always try to accommodate seeing you within the same week if you need to move your session without 48 hrs notice. I understand that emergencies happen. If something unexpected comes up, please reach out as soon as possible, and we’ll discuss options.
  • Do you offer a free consultation?
I don’t typically offer free consultations. Over time, I’ve found that a short 20-minute conversation often isn’t enough to really get a sense of the work we’d do together—or very useful in helping people make a decision. Most of my clients come to me through word of mouth from friends, doctors, or other professionals, and often that recommendation is enough reassurance to move forward. That said, I’m happy to answer any questions via email. And if you’re feeling truly hesitant about starting therapy without speaking first, please reach out—I’m sometimes willing to make accommodations.
  • What is your rate?
My current rate is $260 per 50 minute session. A credit card or HSA is kept on file and charged at each session. Superbills are provided at the end of each month, which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
  • Why don't you have a booking link on your site?
I know it’s convenient to book online, especially in today’s world of instant everything. But therapy is personal—and it’s important to me that we make sure we’re a good fit before you schedule. That’s why I ask you to reach out through my contact form or email first. Once we’ve connected, I’m happy to send you my scheduling link.
  • Do you see clients in person?
Yes! I see clients in person in my office in Poulsbo, WA. The address is 18820 Front Street #220, Poulsbo, WA 98346. This location is right in downtown Poulsbo with relatively easy parking on side streets or down by the marina. It's just up the stairs from the Green Light Diner. I also see clients online via zoom. I'm also happy to offer hybrid sessions where sometimes we meet in person and sometimes online.
  • Why don't you take insurance?
I took insurance for many years, but in 2020 I ultimately decided it wasn’t the right fit for my practice—or for many of my clients. Insurance companies often delay payments, make providers do a song and dance to get paid, or even come back months (or years!) later to “claw back” money they’ve already paid. They’re also putting more and more limits on mental health care—restricting the number of sessions, requiring specific diagnoses, and reserving the right to audit your personal mental health records at any time. Honestly, I got tired of having insurance companies in the middle of the therapy process. I believe therapy should be private and focused on what’s best for you, not on what an insurance company decides to cover. That said, if you have out-of-network benefits, I’m happy to provide a superbill—a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Every plan is different, so you’d need to check with your insurance company to see what they’ll cover. I know private pay therapy isn’t the right option for everyone. If you need to use your insurance, I completely understand—and in that case, I may not be the best fit for you.
  • How often do we meet?
It honestly depends on what you’re going through and what kind of support you need. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others find that meeting every other week works best. I don’t offer monthly sessions unless we’ve already worked together for a while and you’re just wanting occasional check-ins. We’ll figure out a schedule that makes sense for you and your goals.
